Meet our Members Monday: Sharon McAdory

Originally interested in finding a traditional weight training routine, Sharon McAdory stepped through the doors of Seattle Kettlebell Club in mid-July when she kept seeing the club’s sign on visits to her parents, who live in the area.

Before joining the club, McAdory had done Pilates for two years and enjoyed weekly 3-4-mile walks, but feeling like she was in a fitness rut, she was yearning for a practice that would help her gain muscle, burn calories, and lose weight.

“I needed more weight training,” McAdory said. “I didn’t feel like I was getting stronger.”

Working as a pharmacist, not only does McAdory find herself on her feet all day, but she also works long hours and her schedule varies, so she appreciates that SKC offers classes at a wide range of times. She likes the convenience of being able to work out before or after work, and since the classes are 45 minutes, she likes being able to get in a very effective workout in under an hour.

“Trying to coordinate life with family, friends, and workouts takes a lot of time,” McAdory said.

When she does have free time, McAdory enjoys going to movies, doing community work for her church, and sightseeing in the area.

When McAdory first started coming to SKC, she was attending classes 3 times a week, but after she participated in the club’s 21 Day Challenge back in October, she now tries her best to make it a priority to train 4 times a week.

“When you start seeing results, it makes you wanna do more,” McAdory said.

Even though the classes are in a group setting, McAdory feels that since classes are so small and the kettlecoaches prioritize safety, members always receive positive yet constructive criticism. She also praises the nice amenities, cleanliness of the club, and the fact that all the members and kettlecoaches build relationships and encourage each other.

“Everyone is happy to be here,” McAdory said, “and I think that goes a long way.”

McAdory is currently alternating between the GAP and Sport classes. She enjoys the GAP classes because of the variety of exercises and the fact that cardio is included, but she also likes the competitive challenge that the Sport classes bring.

“Come in, and give it a try. Stay at it, and you can go up in weight,” McAdory said. “The most important thing is that [the coaches] are concerned about your safety.”
